NRNA welcomes Maoist decision to withdraw strike
KATHMANDU, MAY 10 -
The Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) welcomed the decision of the UCPN (Maoist) to withdraw the indefinite strike.
In a press release issued on Monday, the NRNA said that all the problems and differences among the political parties should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations in a peaceful manner.
"We would like to see the promulgation of a new constitution enshrining the democratic principles and universally recognised human rights at the earliest," read the statement.
The NRNA has also called on the major political parties to rise above party ideology and work in the national interest of the country.
The NRNA has also believed that strike withdrawal will pave the way for a consensus.
The main opposition paty Maoist withdrew its general strike after six long days on May 7, paying heed to the plight from various quarters of the society and international community.
On May 1, the Maoists staged a massive show of power in the capital marking the International May Day for what they called peace and constitution and brought the nation to a standstill with their stringent indefinite general strike from May 2 to topple the incumbent government and take the reins of new national government.
