US envoy meets Bhattarai, Swiss govt ready to mediate
KATHMANDU, MAY 06 -
U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Scott H. DeLisi held discussion with Maoist Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Thursday.
During the meeting held at Bhattaria’s residence at Shantinagar in the capital, the U.S envoy enquired about the ongoing Maoist strike and efforts being made to resolve the political deadlock, among others issues. The meeting lasted for about an hour.
DeLisi underscored the need to forge consensus.
While discussing the role of international community in Nepal’s peace process, the U.S. ambassador said his country is ready to extend support to Nepal on the same.
At the meeting, Bhattarai discussed the U.S. terrorist tag on the Maoists and asked why the tag is continued.
The Maoist vice chairman tried to assure the U.S. ambassador that the Maoists will not depart from the path of peace and democracy.
Switzerland ready mediate to resolve crisis
The Swiss ambassador said that his country is ready to play the role of mediator to resolve the crisis in Nepal.
