Cop’s bike kills Maoist supporter

KATHMANDU, MAY 05 -

A motorcycle ridden by an Armed Police Force sub-inspector knocked a UCPN (Maoist) supporter dead on Tuesday night.

The dead has been identified as Ganesh Subedi, a resident of Thumki Village Development Committee in Kaski district. Buddhi Sagar Ojha, hailing from Kaski, was also injured in the incident. They had come to Kathmandu to take part in the Maoist protest.

According to police, Subedi died in course of treatment at Bir Hospital. He was rushed to Shahid Memorial Hospital Kalanki for treatment after the accident. Citing serious injury, he was referred to Bir Hospital, where he breathed his last.

Sangam K.C. of the Bhagawati battalion of the APF in Kirtipur was riding home when the accident took place. Police said they are looking into the case by taking K.C. under control.

Ojha is undergoing treatment at the Kalanki-based hospital. Maoist leaders have alleged that the incident was intentionally carried out by the government.
