An acute shortage of food has surfaced in Karnali zone this year as well, after foodstuffs supplied there have been stranded in Surkhet due to lack of transportation facility.
Foodstuffs that supplied to the zone have been stranded at the Surkhet Airport and a food depot there.
Some 250 people from Kalai, a remote VDC of Mugu have gathered in the district headquarters Gamgadhi and have been picketing the branch office of Nepal Red Cross there since Tuesday following a severe shortage of food in the district.
The picketers said they arrived in the district headquarters by completing a two-day trek after the office called them to take rice. But, when we arrived here, we could not get any rice, they said. Despite having the foodstuffs provided by the World Food Organisation, the office ignored our demands, they complained.
