Mobster attacks co-gangster

KATHMANDU, APR 27 - Just hours after the Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range Ramesh Kharel expressed his committment to curb crime, notorious gangster Deepak Manange’s brother opened fire at another gangster in Thamel area in the wee hours of Monday. Police said Manage’s brother Ajay Gurung “Rainbow” shot at 34-year-old Chhiring Gurung, who is a resident of Nayabazaar, inside Thamel-based Star Hotel. Chhiring, who is said to be a close business partner, sustained bullet injuries on his legs. He has been admitted to Bir Hospital for treatment. Doctors involved in Chhiring’s treatment said that his condition is normal.

The motive behind the attack is yet be ascertained. Police suspect that the shooting may have taken place because of business related dispute. Police Inspector Rukma Shamsher Kunwar, in-charge of Metropolitan Police Sector, Sorakhutte, said that Gurung absconded after firing at Chhiring. “A manhunt has been launch to nab him,” said Kunwar. Police investigation indicates that he may still be hiding in the Capital.

According to Kunwar, police arrested the owner of the hotel, Babi Gurung, who is also Manange’s brother, and two other persons in connection with the incident. Police claim to have received an important lead in the investigation.

They said they have also been planning to nab Manange, who is currently out of the Valley. Manange has fallen into the  police net many times in connection with massive gang wars, murder attempts and extortion.
