Three Star keep title hopes alive

KATHMANDU, APR 24 - Nabil Three Star Club kept their title hope alive with a 3-1 win over Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) at the San Miguel Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’  Division League Football on Friday. With the win, Patan based club, Three Star ascended to second spot with 31 points from 16 match. Tribhuvan Army and New Road Team (NRT) also have 31 points but Three Star leaped to second spot on better goal difference.

Surendra Tamang provided Three Star the lead on the 23rd minute. Santosh Sahukhala fed him the pass. Sahukhala, the leading goal scorer of the league, made it 2-0 on 57th minute. Despite being 2-0 RCT exerted pressure on Three Star.

Dipesh Magar scored the lone goal for RCT. Castory Mumbara’s awesome shot form the 30 yard made it 3-1 for Three Star. Three Star coach Bal Gopal Maharjan hailed Mumbara’s goal as the best of the league.

“We are back to winning ways and today’s will defiantly boost our morale for the next match against Army,” Maharjan said, “however my strikers need to improve and injury is still a major concern for us with key players, Anjan KC, Pradeep Maharjan and Bijay Gurung injured.”

In the other match, NIBL Friends Club suffered yet another defeat at the hands of tail ender. Friends, who had lost their previous match to Boys Union Club (BUC) failed to overcome Sankata Football Club’s Challenge on Friday. A brace from Sujal Shrestha and goal each from Ekjun Tuladhar and Nirajan Malla  provided respite to relegation battlers Sankata as they hammered Friends Club 4-0.
