Maoists should 'meet conditions' for govt change

KATHMANDU, APR 20 -

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shekhar Koirala said on Tuesday that change in guard could be considered if the Maoists meet the conditions set by his party and prove their commitment through action.

He added the Maoists should come to terms on the integration of their combatants and should return the seized land and property to their rightful owners and dismantle the paramilitary structure of their youth front Young Communist League (YCL).

Koirala remarked the political parties and the people would not accept the constitution to be announced by the Maoists from the streets.

“The Constituent Assembly (CA)’s tenure can be extended if the Maoists and the Madhesi-based parties agree on it,” said Koirala, speaking at a press meet organised in Biratnagar today.

According to RSS, the NC leader claimed that there was an understanding between late NC President Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to integrate 3,000-7,000 Maoist combatants.
