Health Minister urges Maoists to be sincere
SYANGJA, APR 20 -
Minister for Health and Population Umakanta Chaudhari on Tuesday called on the main opposition party UCPN (Maoist) to be sincere in the peace process and constitution-writing.
Speaking at a press conference organised by Nepal Press Union at Waling, Syangja, this morning, he alleged the Maoist, the largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), of not being serious in the peace process and in drafting new constitution.
He also accused the Maoists of making a mockery of the people’s mandate expressed through the CA elections by becoming apathetic to peace building and giving an outlet to the country from the political impasse.
“General public themselves will expose the Maoists if they fail in fulfilling the responsibility they have assigned them,” he said.
Minister Chaudhari said the government is making efforts to mend relations between Nepal and India that has been soured due to the scrapping of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) deal with India recently. He was referring to the decision of the government to cancel the agreement to award the contract for printing the MRPs to India that is said to have irked Nepal’s southern neighbour.
He asserted that the government will not fall down due to the Maoist intimidation. “Yes, the government might fall if it loses the parliamentary majority support but not through Maoist intimidation,” he said.
