'Schools charging exorbitant fees will be invalidated'

BHAKTAPUR, APR 18 -

Director General at the Department of Education, Haribol Khanal on Sunday warned of action against the private schools charging exorbitant fees.

Talking to reporters today, Khanal said the accreditation of the schools not obeying the directives for reducing the fees would be canceled.

The Department of Education has moved ahead the process of taking action for checking the hike in fees by schools after the private schools in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur increased the fees from 15 to 35 percent.

Khanal said the District Education Officers of all the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley have been called to the Department and instructed to take immediate action against schools collecting fees more than determined by the Education Regulation.

The District Education Office, Bhaktapur has also conducted monitoring and moved ahead the process for taking action against the private schools in the district collecting fees more than fixed by the Education Regulation. It is found that the private schools in Bhaktapur district have increased the fees from 15 to 22 percent.

District Education Officer Neera Shakya said discussion has been held with representatives of the Parents' Association, student organizations, the Private and Boarding Schools' Organization of Nepal (PABSON) and N-PABSAN regarding school fees.
