Lawmakers demand action against Bardiya guilty
KATHMANDU, APR 13 -
Accusing the Nepal Army (NA) personnel of killing three women including a minor at Baspani in Bardiya district, the lawmakers on Tuesday demanded action against the guilty NA men.
“Immediate action should be taken against those NA personnel,” said Lawmaker Dama Sharma, while other lawmakers, among others, Prativa Rana, Sarita Giri and Neelam KC echoed with her.
Three women—Devisara B.K., Amrita B.K. and Chandrakala B.K, 12—of Hariharpur VDC-2, Surkhet district were shot dead by a NA patrol team in Baspani inside Bardiya National Park on March 10.
The parliamentarians also expressed their concern at the remarks made by Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari that those killed were poachers at the parliamentary committee.
The NA has been claiming that the three were poachers and were killed in retaliation when they first opened fire at them.
Claiming that NA personnel used excessive force in Baspani killing despite enormous possibility of taking them under control, the Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislature- Parliament, National Human Rights Commission among other human rights organisations had recommended action against the guilty.
