KATHMANDU, APR 09 - National Dalit Commission (NDC) on Thursday concluded that the three dalit women shot dead by Nepal Army (NA) personnel on the night of March 10 in Bardiya National Park were innocent.

Making public its report on the incident, the Commission recommended Rs.1 million compensation to each victim family and action against the guilty soldiers.

The women--Devisara B.K, 35, Amrita B.K, 33, and 12-year-old Chandra Kala B.K-- from Hariharpur of Surkhet were killed by NA soldiers deployed for the park’s security in Chisapani.

The soldiers took the victims under control before killing, NDC quoted the locals as saying. “Although the women were innocent, the government has tried to project them as poachers,” said NDC secretariat member Jiban Pariyar.

Investigations carried out by various organisations, including parliament’s Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee, National Human Rights Commission and National Women Commission had found victims innocent. “On the basis of these reports, the government should make public facts about the killing,” said Pariyar.

He also asked to make public the post-mortem report by Dr. Harihar Basti. NDC has asked the

concerned authorities to postpone cases against locals, including Krishna Bahadur BK, father of deceased Chandrakala. They were accused of being poachers.
