ITAHARI, APR 07 -

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijay Kumar Gachchadar Wednesday said the new constitution cannot be promulgated without completing the task of management and integration of Maoist combatants.

Speaking at a press meet in Itahari, Gachchadar said lasting peace cannot be established without integrating and rehabilitating the Maoist combatants. He, however, ruled out the possibility of mass integration of Maoist combatants into the national army.

He added that promulgation of new constitution will also be difficult until and unless the paramilitary structure of Young Communist league is dismantled and the properties seized by the Maoists during the insurgency are returned.

He said the Maoists must prove that they have transformed into a democratic force and it’s their responsibility to take all parties together.

He also said the current government will promulgate the new constitution and the government will last till May 28.

In a query he said the cabinet decided to print Machine Readable Passports in India on the basis of consensus and the government was compelled to take the decision due to the delay by the officials at the foreign ministry.
