'Maoists do not have alternative to timely constitution'

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijay Kumar Gachhadar on Monday said even the opposition party Maoist do not have alternatives to promulgating the new constitution in time. He claimed that the constitution-drafting can be completed within ten days if the parties become ready to work together.
Speaking at a press meet in Janakpur today, DPM Gachhadar who is also the chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum –Loktantrik (MJF-L) said, "Now the UCPN (Maoist), the government and the political parties like ours are left with no options other than to drafting the new constitution by May 28 deadline."
"National as well as international powers want to see timely constitution, institutionalisation of federal democratic republic in country and a logical conclusion of the peace process", said the deputy prime minister.
Hinting at the street protests declared by the Maoists and the MJF-Nepal, the DPM said this is the time for the reach understanding among the political parties as the deadline to draft the new constitution is only 51 days away.

Gachhadar ruled out the possibility of government change, saying that the current UML-led government is the majority one and has the backing of 22 parties.
Also at the programme, Tourism Minister Sarad Singh Bhandari accused the previous governments of misunderstanding only the hilly regions as tourism destination.
