KATHMANDU, APR 01 - A brace from Uttam Gurung helped Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) earn a comfortable 3-1 victory over strugglers Armed Police Force, while Machhindra Club piled on misery on relegation battlers Kathmandu Mall Sankata Club defeating them 3-1 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League at the Dashrath Stadium on Wednesday.

Gurung gave RCT an early break just 49 seconds into the game to establish himself as the second quickest goal scorer of the league, missing New Road Team’s striker Sayan Mosavi’s record by just four seconds. Mosavi set his record against Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club.

For the goal, Gurung unleashed the ball from the outside the penalty box thwarting a back pass by the APF defence. APF were back in level terms on 10th minute when Prakash Karki’s cross from left flank found Ganesh Lawati at the other end. Lawati rose unchallenged to nest his header into the top corner. But Gurung restored the lead two minutes later from a solo run putting his effort into the bottom right corner from the left flank.

Deepak Rai scored the final goal for RCT on 74th minute. The win gave RCT 15 points from 11 games, while APF remained at 10th with 10 points.

In the other game of the day, Sankata squandered their early lead to go down 3-1 in the end. Santosh Shrestha gave Sankata the lead on ninth minute only to be pegged back by Brazilian Daniel Baroni on 33rd minute from a penalty awarded for a foul on Ezee Collins by Sankata keeper Suman Legal.

A strike from Bishnu K.C. on 76th minute put Machhindra in front; Pukar Ale confirmed the win a minute later.

Having lost nine of their 11 games, Sankata are second from the bottom with six points, one ahead of Boys Union Club. Machhindra, on the other hand, bagged their third win of the campaign to stay seventh with 15 points.
