KATHMANDU, MAR 30 -

Kathmandu District Administration Office on Tuesday directed the director of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) to immediately resume hospital services.

Stating that the closure of hospital services goes against the Essential Service Operation Act 2014 B.S., the Chief District Officer directed  TUTH Director Dr. Keshav Prasad Joshi to resume health services as soon as possible.

As the resident doctors and medical students have taken to indefinite closure of the hospital demanding fair probe of alleged irregularities on entrance exams of Post Graduate course, and suspension of top offcials at Dean's Office of Insitute of Medicine, the hospital services have been affected for the last 16 days.

In its letter, the CDO has asked the TUTH authorities to inform the administration, if any kind of support is required by the hospital for its operation.

The Supreme Court has issued show cause order to the government, Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM) and others including the CDO over the closure of TUTH.

Also, issuing a statement, Tribhuvan University also urged  the agitating groups to withdraw their protests and continue providing hospital services.

"The university has already agreed to take action against those involved in irregularities as per the recommendation of the investigation committee set up by the university following the demands of agitators and cancelled the entrance examination for post graduate studies in medicine on 13 and 14 March taken by the Institute of Medicine," reads the statement.
