KATHMANDU, MAR 26 -

Tribhuvan University on Friday decided to cancel the controversial entrance examinations for admission in Post Graduate courses conducted by the Institute of Medicine (IoM), Teaching Hospital, and to conduct the entrance tests again.

In a press statement issued today, the TU informed the decision to this effect was taken as per the probe report submitted by the panel formed earlier on March 19 and the discussion with the agitating sides. The entrance tests were held on March 13 and 14.

The TU said it would not be just and can impact entire examinees to uphold the tests though the examinations in other three centres were held without disturbances on March 13.

Likewise, it would not be practical to uphold the examinations conducted in the fearful environment on March 14 though there were no suspicions of misconduct, read the statement.

The university has also decided to direct the IoM, Office of Dean, to re-conduct the tests as per the existing rule by creating an environment of trust .

Accusing the office bearers at the IoM's Dean's Office of leaking questions for bribe, IoM students in one of the three four centers had boycotted the exams and took to agitation.

Following which, resident doctors, consultants and employees at the TU Teaching Hospital joined in the protest and brought the entire hospital services including the emergency to a halt from earlier this week, demanding a fair probe of the issue and action against the guilty.

However, the doctors were forced to resume the emergency service after the locals threatened to cut off water supply and electricity from yesterday

The Hospital services, except the emergency department, remained completely shut on Friday as well.

The resident doctors have been demanding that the IoM management cancel the tests that were held on March 13 and 14, the office bearers resign, and reschedule the tests as soon as possible.
