'Counter revolutionaries plotting to restore monarchy'
KATHMANDU, MAR 25 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha claimed on Thursday that the latest statement by former King Gyanendra Shah has made it clear that counter revolutionaries are conspiring in the country.
He added that the deposed king gave his recent statement with the support from counter revolutionary forces.
Speaking at a programme in the capital today, the Maoist leader remarked that yesterday’s statement of the ex-monarch that the monarchy could resurrect is an audacious attempt to disrespect the people.
Diposed King Gyanendra Shah had visited Ram Janaki Temple in Jankpur, where he was welcome by royalist leaders and activities, to perform puja at the temple.
He added that it is a daydream to say that the constitutionally terminated monarchy will be restored.
In another context, Shrestha said it was sad to see the parties claiming the leadership of the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) formed to assist the peace process and the statute drafting process. He added the issue should be finalised through consensus.
While saying that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal should be allowed to take the leadership of the HLPM, the Maoist vice chair said his party however will not claim for the same.
A fresh debate has surfaced among the political spectrum following the demise of NC president and GP Koirala, who was leading the three-member HLPM. Maoist Chairman Dahal and UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal are the members of the mechanism.
