UNMIN expresses 'deep sorrow' on Koirala's demise

The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) and the UN Country Team on Sunday expressed their grief on the death of Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala.
In a press statement issued by the UNMIN today, UNMIN Chief Karin Landgren has hailed the late NC President for his pivotal role in Nepal's peace process and the formation of High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM).
"Girija Prasad Koirala was instrumental to the peace process in Nepal which ended 10 years of conflict. He brought his political skill and credibility to bear in persuading the parties to begin the dialogue that led to the 12-point Agreement, and later to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement itself," the statement read.
The concluding of the peace process and statute drafting would be the greatest tribute to late Koirala, read the press release.
