KATHMANDU, MAR 20 - An emergency Cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar to decide the honour to be bestowed on late Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala.
Koirala passed away at the residence of his only daughter Sujata Koirala, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Koirala is credited with playing a crucial role in Nepal's peace process that brought the former rebel party UCPN (Maoist) to the mainstream politics, thereby bringing an end to the decade long armed insurgency during which over 13,000 people lost their lives and thousands other displaced.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal went to Mandikatar, where Koirala's body has been kept, to offer his tribute to the veteran leader.
