Prez cancels all official programmes; former King expresses grief

KATHMANDU, MAR 20 - President Dr Ram Baran Yadav announced the cancellation of all his official programmes scheduled for Saturday and Sunday to mourn the death of Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala.

A huge number of senior political leaders and general public have been thronging the residence of Koirala's daughter in Mandikatar, Kathmandu.

President Yadav could not go to Mandikatar due to the dense crowd at Mandikatar.

Former King, other leaders sad at Koirala's demise

Meanwhile, former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah has expressed his sadness over the demise of Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala.

Likewise, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, hailed the late NC President's role in the peace process and said that Koirala's demise has caused about colossal loss for Nepal and added that the leaders of political party should endeavor to fit his position and stature.

"Koirala's demise is the fall down of the tallest tree in Nepal's politics.

Vacuum in Guardianship

Home Minister Bhim Rawal, upon his arrival at Mandikatar, said the demise of Koirala has left a void in the guardian's role that he has been carrying out in Nepal's politics.

While noting that the loss of Koirala was irreparable, Minister for Supplies Rajendra Mahato said, the only true tribute to late NC President will be the succesful conclusion of the peace process and constitution drafting.

Koirala, who played a leading role in Nepal's peace process and the statue drafting, had time and again expressed his desire to take the peace process to a logical end.
