MRP contract to India; ICAO deadline missed
KATHMANDU, MAR 19 -
The Cabinet meeting on Friday decided to hand over the responsibility to finalise the much-debated contract on Machine Readable Passports (MPRs) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This has cleared the deck for awarding the contract to the Nasik-based Indian government undertaking -- Security Printing and Minting Press.
Due to the Cabinet's delayed call on the issue, Nepal has missed the April 1 deadline set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
India will provide 4 million copies of MRP to Nepal for three years at US $ 4 per copy.
