'UML won't quit even if no statute by deadline'
KAVRE, MAR 18 -
Minister for General Administration Rabindra Shrestha on Thursday said the CPN- UML would not step down from the government even if the new statute is not drafted within the stipulated timeframe. He remarked that the government will promulgate the new constitution even by extending the deadline.
While saying that the Maoists are planning to form the Maoist-led government by obstructing the constitution drafting and toppling the incumbent government, the Minister claimed that the Cabinet can draft the new constitution within 24 hours if the Constituent Assembly hands over the responsibility to it.
He was speaking at the second district convention of All Nepal National Free Students Union District Campus Committee here.
"The Maoists are creating hurdles in constitution-drafting process by demanding Prime Minister's seat," said Shrestha adding, "Prachanda is the major hindrance behind it."
He also said that the UML is ready to make the Maoist chairman new PM if the Maoists commit in writing to draft the constitution and conclude the army integration process by May 28.
