KATHMANDU, MAR 17 -

Japan has granted US$ 84, 688 to the Nepal Pollution Control and Environment Management Center (NEPCEMAC) for the implementation of the Project for Community Based Waste Management in the Kathmandu Valley.

A grant contract was signed and exchanged on Wednesday between Tatsuo Mizuno, Ambassador of Japan, and Tikaram Dahal, Executive Director of NEPCEMAC, according to a press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu.

During the signing ceremony, Mizuno pointed out that Nepal's tourism sector has been affected due the frequent Bandas, and lack of social infrastructure.

"The poor management of solid waste is also one of the negative factors," he said, underscoring the need of awareness about the importance of eco-friendly waste-disposal among the people.
