Banspani Killings: Govt forms 3-member probe panel
Rs. 25,000 for cremation of each victim
KATHMANDU, MAR 17 -
The Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday formed a three-member probe panel under the leadership of Additional Attorney General Saroj Prasad Gautam to look into the Bardiya incident, and decided to provide Rs. 25, 000 each for the cremation of victims.
Government Spokesperson Shanker Pokharel said that the probe panel includes one representative each from the Defence Ministry and the Forest Ministry.
On March 10, three women—Devisara B.K., Amrita B.K. and Chandrakala B.K, of Hariharpur-2, Surkhet district—were shot dead by a NA patrol team at Banspani inside Bardia National Park.
The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) and Advocacy Forum, in their joint report made public yesterday in Nepalgunj, said that the NA soldiers arrested and killed the victims, contrary to the NA's initial claim that the three were poachers and were killed in retaliation.
Earlier, the victims’ family had accused that the NA soldiers raped and killed the three victims while they were at the forest to collect Kaulo (bark of a tree used for medicinal purpose).
