Idol stolen from Bhaktapur
BHAKTAPUR, MAR 16 -
The idol of Ardhanarayan at the Balmikeshwar Sthan at Bageshwari-8, Bhaktapur has been stolen.
The ancient idol of historical religious importance was stolen from the temple on Monday night. The idol is half Mahadev and half Parvati. Mahadev is a principal Hindu god known as the destroyer and Parvati is his consort and worshipped as goddess.
Priest at the temple Krishna Prasad Subedi said the idol was missing when he entered the temple early in the morning on Monday to pray.
It appears that the thieves tried to lift the idol at the Chaturbhuj Narayan Temple at the same place but made away with the Ardhanarayan idol as they could not extract the idol at the Chaturbhuj Narayan Temple.
The Department of Archaeology, Bhaktapur branch said the stolen idol is the first idol installed during the Malla dynasty rule
