IoM Dean's Office rubbishes accusations, points finger at Campus Chief

KATHMANDU, MAR 15 - The Dean’s Office of Institute of Medicine (IoM) under Tribhuvan University on Monday took exception to the accusations that its office bearers accepted bribe for leaking the questions of entrance examinations for three post-graduate courses held on Saturday. Rubbishing the accusations as baseless, it pointed finger at Chief of the Mahajrajgunj Medical Campus Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Uprety for "misleading the students and taking leadership to disrupt the examinations", instead.

Prof. Uprety, other officials and students have Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Uprety, Maharajgunj Medical Campus Chiefaccused IoM Dean Prof. Dr. Arun Sayami and Assistant Dean Dr. Ratindra Nath Shrestha of irregularities.

In a press statement, Office of the Dean said Prof. Uprety has been charged of irregularities in the past and is facing cases at he Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority currently.

While refuting the charges, the Office mentioned that even daughter of Dean Prof. Sayami, one of the accused, has failed the exams.

“Officials are ready for an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities and to face any kind of action if found guilty of any misdeed,” it said.

It said that a board that prepares the question papers a day prior to the examination. And, it charged that Prof. Uprety, who was invited for the meeting, did not attend it but went to provoke students and disrupt the exams the next day.

The IoM had conducted the entrance examinations of three post-graduate medicine courses.

Examination in one of the four centres was affected on as students boycotted it accusing the Dean Office of rigging questions.

Meanwhile, resident doctors at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) called for an indefinite shutdown of operations except in the Outpatient and Emergency Departments from Sunday demanding the cancellation of the examinations and the resignation of officers at the Dean’s office.
