Ghode Jatra marked
KATHMAMNDU, MAR 15 - The traditional Ghode Jatra--the festival of horses--has been marked on Monday.
Nepal Army organised a special function including horse racing, acrobatics performance and other activities to mark the annual festival. Heads of the constitutional bodies, including President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, ministers, representatives of different constitutional bodies and others oserved the festival organised at the Army Pavillion in Tundikhel.
It is believed that the clamor of horses' hooves on Ghode Jatra keeps the spirit of the demon Tundi at bay.
A large number of people gathered around Tundhikhel to watch the horse parade and other events.
Meanwhile, Vice President Paramananda Jha, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang, Chief Justice Anupraj Sharma, and other high ranking officials were also present.
On the occasion, the government granted a public holiday in all the government offices in Kathmandu Valley to mark the festival.
