KATHAMNDU, MAR 14 - Prior to every age group tournament, Malaysia is a name that frequently comes to Nepal coach Roy Dias. Malaysia, according to Dias, is Nepal’s most dreaded opponents in the event due to their effective youth programmes.

Nepal will face Malaysia in the semi-final of the inaugural edition of the ACC U-16 Elite Cup at the Tribhuvan University Ground on Sunday.

Despite back to back wins, Nepal has been relying on individual performance so far in the tournament and that has been a headache for coach Dias so far. “I am hoping the boys will finally gel and we will win on combined effort,” Dias said. “I expect the middle order, which has been passive so far to finally click. I also trust the spinners to keep up their good work.”

According to the coach, both the teams are evenly matched and the team that bats full 40 overs, handling the pressure well will march into the finals.

Host Nepal booked their place in the last four as winners of Group ‘B’ with wins against Hong Kong, Kuwait and Bahrain. The three wins, puts Nepal at the top of the tables with six points.

Malaysia, on the other hand, started the tournament with a 53- run loss against Singapore. However, they won the last two matches against Saudi Arabia and Thailand by six wickets and 175  runs respectively to progress to the semi-final as runner-up of Group ‘A’. Malaysia has four points from three matches.

Likewise, winner of Group ‘B’ Singapore will battle it out against runner-up of Group ‘A’ Hong Kong in another semi-final at Engineering Ground.
