'Nepal can become Hindu nation if people want'
KATHMANDU, MAR 14 - Vice President said on Sunday that the country can regain its status as a Hindu nation if all the people demanded for the same together.
Talking to reporters at the guest house of Nepal Rastra Bank in Dhangadi today, Jha said, "It is up to the Nepali people to decide whether it should be declared a Hindu nation."
He went on to say that the new constitution will make it clear that whether the country will be secular or religious regardless of what has been mentioned in the interim constitution.
The vice president, who returned after taking a holy dip in a Hindu pilgrimage site of Haridwar in India, said he met religious leaders in Haridwar.
In another context, Jha opined that the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) should give the details of the Maoist combatants if the special committee decides so. He added that it was not wrong on the government's part to ask the information on the Maoist combatants by fulfilling the due procedure.
VP Jha also expressed doubts about the promulgation of new constitution in the stipulated time.
Saying that the new constitution cannot be drafted in the stipulated time without the Maoists' support, he stressed on the need to take ahead the politics of consensus.
