BDS finds woman cop arrest fishy
KATHMANDU, MAR 14 - Blue Diamond Society (BDS), an organisation advocating the rights of the LGBT community, on Sunday claimed that Nepal Police was trying to frame a third gender traffic policewoman on false charges -- human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
On Wednesday, Assistant Head Constable Hussain was arrested on charges of kidnapping and holding a teenage girl hostage for more than three months in her rented apartment.
In a statement, BDS said Hussain had been staying together with the alleged victim as life partner on mutual understanding. The BDS said it was the girl who was attracted towards Hussain, agreed to live and establish sexual relationship.
The organisation claimed that Hussain was arrested under pressure from a relative, who is said to be a high ranking police officer. "The allegations against Hussain are baseless," said BDS. It condemned Nepal Police's act of arresting Hussain on the basis of a complaint that was intended to frame her. It further said the arrest has made a mockery of the Supreme Court's landmark verdict, which states that discrimination against third gender is a punishable act and their rights are as inviolable as others' rights. The society also demanded Hussain's release and reinstatement.
