MMC on top, Sankata hit rock bottom

KATHAMNDU, MAR 13 - Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) restored their lead at the top of the table after edging Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) 1-0, while second from bottom Armed Police Force (APF) took a giant stride to seventh with a 2-0 win over bottom placed Kathmandu Mall Sankata Club in the Martyrs' Memorial San Miguel 'A' Division League on Friday.
Substitute Amar Pun came off the bench to score the only goal of the MMC-RCT game nine minutes from time just as the game looked to end in a goal less draw. MMC, on 16 points, cut short Nepal Police Club's overnight lead with 14 points.
APF climbed out of the relegation zone to seventh with seven points, pilling all the pressure on Sankata, who suffered their third straight defeat today to remain rooted at the bottom of the table with three points. Ganesh Lawati and Tanka Lama were on mark for APF in a match that virtually saw no moves from both the ends besides the two that ended at the back of the net.
Having lost three games in a row, the pressure was on Sankata today, but the Tebahal based club showed no sings of improvement even against a weaker club like APF. The midfield that has been at its worst since the season began lagged while the strikers failed in their attempt throughout.
APF scored both the goals against the run of play. Ganesh Lawati scored the first for APF on 29th minute when he broke the offside trap to put the ball beyond the advancing the keeper. The decider came within a minute from Tanka Lama after he stole a back pass from Ravi Thapa just outside the penalty box and tucked into the right corner.
Despite Sankata's appalling form that has seen them win just once in six games, coach Chet Narayan refused to accept that the club was under pressure. “I have not felt the pressure of being relegated. I hope things will work out for us in the games to come,” he said.
APF coach Maheshwor Mulmi, meanwhile, said Sankata played a better game than APF but they won only because they converted both the chances that came their way.
