Medicos accuse IoM officials of leaking question, boycott PG entrance

KATHMANDU, MAR 13 - Some medical doctors appearing for the Post Graduate entrance at the Maharajgunj-based Institute of Medicine (IoM) under Tribhuvan University on Saturday boycotted the exams accusing the top officials at Dean's Office of leaking question papers for their financial benefit.
They vandalised one of the four examination centres, and clashed with the security personnel there. About two dozen people including resident doctors, students, professors, Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Upreti have been injured in the
incident.
Examinations were conducted peacefully at three other centres.
About 2000 MBBS doctors were competing for 100 seats in Doctor of Medicine (DoM) and Masters of Surgery (MS) courses.
FSU demands fair probe
Free Students Union Secretary Sudan Thapa demanded official cancellation of today’s exams, resignation of the officials at Dean’s Office, fair probe of the incident and conduction of the exams as soon as possible.
Campus Chief had smelt a rat yesterday
Smelling a rat, a committee of 25 officials that included heads of different departments suggested to postpone the exams and investigate whether the questions were leaked for financial benefit by officials concerned.
However, in the absence of IoM Dean Prof. Dr. Arun Sayami, Assistant Dean Ratindra Nath Shrestha took stance to conduct the exams at any cost yesterday evening.
Students then padlocked the Dean’s Office and the Mahajarjgunj Campus since yesterday evening. Police used force to open the facilities. The Teaching Hospital Hostel and Maharajgunj Campus area was tense since then.

Students and professors accused IoM Dean Prof. Dr. Arun Sayami and Assistant Dean Dr. Ratindra Nath Shrestha of selling questions to some aspirant students and collecting Rs. 12 million from them.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sayami, who returned to Kathmandu today, rubbished the accusations and said it was not the first time that rumours about leakage of question paper made a round.
