DHANKUTA, MAR 13 -

Police have recovered a Buddha idol from a hotel in Bhedetar of Dhankuta district.

The idol was found when police broke open the Room No. 103 of the local Himalayan Hotel, said Assistant Police Inspector of Bhedetar Police Post, Shambhu Sitaula.

It was found as the hotel owner informed the police, who searched the room, as a customer was missing following booking of the room and locking it on February 8, but did not return so far.

The Buddha idol is made of metal weighing about 16 kg and kept in a bag.

Although there were three people in the room, only one registered the name as Padam Gurung but did not reveal the address, said hotel owner.

Nothing has been known about the metal of the idol. It has been sent to the Zonal Police Office, said District Police Office Dhankuta DSP Arun Kumar BC.

The man might have fled as a large number of policemen have been mobilised from Dharan and Dhankuta since Feb 8 after a girl was abducted from Bhedetar and killed, police suspected.
