Biratnagar shut over shooting incident

Cadres of the Youth Force, the youth organisation affiliated to the ruling CPN -UML, have called for a general shut down in Biratnagar on Friday after two people, including the YF Morang district president Parashuram Basnet, were hurt in a shooting incident.

An unidentified gang had opened fire at them in Biratnagar on Thursday evening.

Two persons who came riding on a motorcycle shot at Basnet and his assistant Parashu Rai at Flex Industry at Janpath Tole, Biratnagar-15 last evening.

The Janatantrik Mukti Morcha Goit group has taken responsibility for the shooting incident.

Basnet who sustained bullet injuries in the thigh and waist is receiving treatment at local Nobel Medical Hospital. Basnet and Rai are out of danger, the hospital said.

Schools and colleges in Biratnagar have been closed since the morning today. Police said a search has been launched for arresting the culprits and 24 suspects have been apprehended and are being interrogated in this connection.

Meanwhile, the transport labourers have called for a transport strike in Koshi Zone over the killing of a driver at Surunga in Jhapa district. Vehicles operating on the long and short distance routes from Biratnagar to different destinations have stayed off the road due to the transport strike
