KATHAMNDU, MAR 12 - The recently established Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) under the Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) is growing popular among individuals looking for employment opportunities in South Korea and industrial internships in Japan.

The centre came into operation on Feb. 23 with technical support from the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) to disseminate information on foreign employment to aspirants and stakeholders related in the foreign employment sector.

"We are here to provide information regarding foreign employment to any aspirants on any labour destinations but 90 percent of them seek information either on Japan International Training Cooperation Organization (JITCO) or on Employment Permit System to Korea," said an official of the centre. "Only two or three person have made inquiries about Qatar and Israel."

Till date, the centre has provided free telephone and walk-in counselling service to around 100 foreign employment aspirants between the age group of 18 to 43. Only one female aspirant has made inquiry about foreign employment.

The officials said that many aspirants enquired about the names of foreign employment agencies selected for JITCO programme, criteria and the cost to be paid to go to Japan to work as industrial trainee.

The board is all set to install an auto answering machine within a few days, after which the aspirants will receive automated information regarding the major labour destinations and foreign employment agencies. "We will be installing the machine by Monday," said Mukunda Adhikari, under-secretary at the board. "We are preparing material to be put on in the answering machine holding consultation with concerned stakeholder organisations."

In the initial phase, the board plan to put basic information related to 10-12 major labour destinations.
