Jhapa shut down over driver's murder

JHAPA, MAR 11 -

Transportation workers have enforced a shutdown of Jhapa district on Wednesday protesting the killing of a bus driver.

The driver of a wedding bus with registration no. Me 1 Kha 1835, identified as Sher Bahadur, of Surung in Jhapa, died in a fight that erupted over a minor dispute with the groom side. The bus carrying the wedding attendees was returning from the ceremony in Gauradaha.

Following the death, the workers brought Jhapa district to a complete halt. No vehicles have plied the road and market places have remained shut.

The agitating transport workers have demanded action against the guilty and compensation to the victim's family.

Police have arrested three persons involved in the incident.
