Japan extends Rs. 6m grant for conflict affected kids

KATHMANDU, MAR 10 -

Japan has decided to extend a financial assistance of Rs. 6,398,451 to the Save the Children Japan (SCJ) to implement project for quality education for children affected by armed conflict in Dang and Surkhet districts.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, the Embassy of Japan said the project will be implemented in coordination with the district education offices and three local NGOs— Society for Environment Economy Development, Social Awareness Centre and Women for Human Rights.

The grant contract relating to the project was exchanged between Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno and Resident Representative of SCJ Ayano Suzumura, the statement read.  

According to the embassy, the grant aims to improve access to quality learning opportunities for all children in 30 primary schools in both the districts where many internally displaced people reside. The project targets 6,000 of the most marginalized and conflict affected children, the release stated.

Speaking on the contract signing ceremony, the Japanese envoy expressed his belief that the project will help improve local educational institutions.
