KATHMANDU, MAR 10 - Seriously concerned over the "lust for power" among top leaders, a group of "new generation" Constituent Assembly (CA) members below the age of 50 have started a signature campaign to pressurise senior leaders to reach consensus and focus on constitution drafting. They also demanded meaningful participation in the process stating that they have been excluded from most of the critical stages.

"There are over 430 of us who have not crossed 50, and we feel it's time we took the lead in making senior leaders responsible towards their duty," said Gagan Thapa, a 'new generation' CA member from Nepali Congress. "We have started the campaign to pressurise seniors as the ball is in their court."

The group said a total of 150 CA members below 50 have already expressed solidarity with the campaign by signing a memorandum on the very first day it was launched. The memorandum will be submitted to CA Chairman Subas Nembang after collecting the signatures of CA members in this age group in the next two days.

"We, the new generation CA members, are deeply concerned that party heads and senior leaders are failing to forge national consensus and think beyond partisan interests and the power game," said CA member Sunil Babu Pant, one of the campaigners. "We also demand that the top leaders ensure meaningful participation for us in the constitution writing process."

The memorandum with signatures of over two-third CA members is expected to draw the attention of all party heads, especially as it has to do with the former's role in the historic CA, which will determine the fate of the constitution and the peace process.
