Ministry approves Japanese course
KATHMANDU, MAR 10 - The government will allow any institute having member-teachers from the Japanese Language Teachers Association Nepal (JALTAN) to conduct Japanese language training courses for hopeful industrial trainees under the Japan International Training Cooperation Organisation (JITCO) programme.
Candidates have to complete a 219-hour or 74-day training course in Japanese language by paying Rs. 7,000 and pass an exam to get the final approval to work as an industrial trainee in Japan.
The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management has already approved the training course that comprises 90 hours of grammar, 90 hours of speaking and listening, 30 hours of culture, six hours of basic occupational terminology and three hours of Japanese food.
"Any candidate selected as an industrial trainee to work in Japanese firms must pass the exam after completing the training," said Purna Chandra Bhattarai, joint secretary at the Labour Ministry. The Labour Ministry is also holding discussions with the concerned stakeholders on refunding the entire or part of the training fee to those who fail the exam. So far, three foreign employment agencies and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry out of the 172 entities chosen to send industrial trainee workers to Japan have received requests from Japanese firms.
"Five industrial workers proposed by Siddhartha Buddha Overseas have already received the pre-approval from our department to work in the agricultural sector and food industry in Japan under the JITCO programme," said Mohan Krishna Sapkota, director general of the Department of Foreign Employment. Similarly, two other agencies have also received requests to send over 30 industrial trainee workers, according to the ministry.
"Almost everything has been readied to send trainee workers to Japan," said Bhattarai. "Once we are done with the issue of language training institutes and fee refunds, further work will start," he added.
