KATHMANDU, MAR 09 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday said that conspirators were spreading rumour that the Maoists were planning revolt.

“Conspiracy is being hatched to enforce dictatorial regime in the country and those behind the conspiracy are spreading the rumour that Maoist are shaping up for revolt,” said Dahal while addressing a mass gathering at Khulla Manch.

The main opposition organised the programme to mark the 100the International Women’s Day.

The Maoist chairman’s statement comes a day after the media reported that during training to the party men Dahal instructed them to stay prepared for revolt.

“Our top priority at this juncture is statute within the stipulated time and we are focused to accomplish the task,” said Dahal. However, he maintained that party would opt to go for the revolt if the ‘extreme rightist forces’ tried to derail the peace process and thwart constitution-drafting. “

Dahal also stressed on the need of the national unity government. “It’s necessary that we have a national unity government under the leadership of the Maoist party to promulgate the constitution within stipulated time,” said Dahal.

The main opposition leader this time took a potshot at the incumbent government terming it ‘a rotten stinking pumpkin’ and said it will fall any time soon. .

On Nepal Army, Dahal took a softer position. He said the Maoists do not have the intention to jeopardize Nepal Army. Army and the Maoists should stand together to safeguard the country, he said.
