Norwegian Foreign Minister, Sujata discuss OHCHR extension

KATHMANDU, MAR 09 -

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala met her counterpart Jonas Gahr Støre at the latter’s office in Oslo, Norway on Monday and held discussions on whole gamut of Nepal-Norway bilateral relations.

They also exchanged views on the impacts of climate change and developmental problems faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) like Nepal.

According to the press release issued by the Embassy of Nepal in London, Koirala apprised the Norwegian side of the current political situation including ongoing peace process and consensus building efforts being made by High Level Political Mechanism.

She appreciated the assistance provided by the Norwegian government to Nepal’s socio-economic development and requested the Norwegian side to further the scope of bilateral cooperation.

In response, the Norwegian Foreign Minister reiterated continued support of his government to Nepal and wished for the early conclusion of Nepal’s peace process through political consensus.

 Issues of women empowerment, promotion of human rights, extension of the mandate of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal and accession to anti-personnel landmine treaty by Nepal were also discussed in the meeting.

Also on Monday, Minister Koirala held discussion with Minister of the Environment and International Development of Norway Erik Solheim on various aspects of mutual cooperation and interests.
