Maoists attack Health Minister; GTZ vehicle damaged

BARDIYA, MAR 09 -
Activists of the UCPN (Maoist) tried to attack Health Minister Umakanta Chaudhary in Bardia on Tuesday. Targeting Minister Chaudhary, they pelted stones at the vehicle he was travelling by at Mainapokhara.
The stones hit a vehicle of Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) instead, and smashed its glasses. A staffer of an NGO has been injured in the incident, according to police.
Minister Chaudhary was heading to Gulariya to inaugurate the newly built District Hospital.
Police have detained four Maoist cadres in connection with the attack. The arrestees are identified as Giridhari Pokharel, Shankar Prasad Tharu Shekhar, Narayan Pariya and Lalit Bohora.
The Maoists had attacked Chaudhary in Mahendranagar yesterday also.
