UNMIN should stay till peace process ends: Bhattarai
KATHMANDU, MAR 07 -
UPCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday said that United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) should stay in Nepal unless the peace process is concluded. UNMIN has been monitoring the peace process since Jan. 37, 2007.
The Maoist leader's such statement comes at a time when the government and the other political parties have been raising questions over the UNMIN's role in the peace process.
It has been understood that Dr Bhattarai, during a meeting with UNMIN Chief Karin Landgren today, opined that army integration and the peace process should be taken ahead side by side.
In response, the UNMIN chief said the peace process is in disarray and expressed concern over the Maoists' role in the same. Landgreen went to Bhattarai's residence in Shantinagar, Kathmandu.
