Editors condemn Singhaniya murder

(0 Votes)

KATHMANDU, MAR 03 -

We condemn the murder of Arun Kumar Singhaniya, chairman of Janakpur Today. The dastardly act reveals the heinous face of crime and reflects complete lack of government presence.

Singhaniya’s killing comes barely a month after media entrepreneur Jamim Shah was murdered. In the wake of these two murders, Brij Kumar Yadav, editor of Janakpur Today and Manoj Gharti, reporter of Naya Patrika, have been threatened.  Media persons of Kantipur Publications and The Himalayan Times also received similar threats after Shah’s killing. The government’s failure to gauge the gravity of the situation and its utter lack of accountability has encouraged criminals to harbour the idea that the media fraternity of Nepal will waver from its duty.

We strongly demand that the  guilty be brought to book  and vow not to surrender press freedom under any threat or intimidation.
