Disqualified combatants to be provided skills training

JHAPA, MAR 02 -

An education programme is to be started in five districts of the Mechi and Kosi Zones for the educational development of the UCPN (Maoist) former combatants disqualified by UNMIN.

This educational scheme is being initiated under the Social Reintegration of Conflict-affected Children and Youth programme.

Prakash Adhikari, programme coordinator of Human Rights Network and Peace Action Group, Mechi, said informal, formal and open mode education would be initiated according to the choice of the children and youths discharged from the cantonments.

Adhikari said arrangements have been made for implementing the education programme with the support of the District Education Offices of the concerned districts from coming April. Besides the education programme, the disqualified combatants would also be provided with skills training.

The programme will be implemented in four districts of the Mechi Zone and Terhathum district of Kosi Zone with the assistance of UNICEF.
