30 pc Bajura kids deprived of vaccination
BAJURA, MAR 01 - Thirty percent children in Bajura district have not received prophylactic vaccines due to the lack of health workers.
According to the District Public Health Office (DPHO), the health centres in the VDCs of Toli, Huni, Rugin, Bichhya and Badhu have the largest number of children who did not receive vaccines.
A child is supposed to receive seven types of vaccines by age five. However, in case of Bajura, many children have not received the basic vaccines, making them vulnerable from the health's point of view.
"In some places we have assistant health workers administering vaccines to the children, but that does not cover all the children. Thirty percent children have not been covered by the vaccination programme," said Dr. Gunaraj Awasthi, DPHO chief.
The government has announced free vaccination programme to control child mortality rate. As a part of the programme, rural health workers are supposed to make door-to-door visit of villages, administering vaccine to children, and set up temporary vaccination service centres.
"It has been years since vaccination drive was launched in these VDCs," Dr. Awasthi said.
