Maoists shelve CC extension plan; to focus on constitution drafting
KATHMANDU, FEB 25 -
After days of intense exercise to extend its Central Committee (CC) failed to give positive results, the UCPN (Maoist) deferred its plan to extend the CC on Thursday.
Concluding that the twin task of constitution drafting and logical conclusion of peace process was the major responsibility, the party Central Committee (CC) meeting today decided to focus its attention on the constitution drafting for now.
Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said the necessary decision regarding the party CC extension will be made only after conducting further study on the organisational structure.
He also informed that a meeting including In-charges of the party state committees would be held in March (4-8) in order to finalise the forms of pressure programmes for the ‘national sovereignty' and constitution drafting.
According to sources, the Maoist had been preparing to extend its CC from 137 members to 175. However, the party failed to pick the new members to be incorporated in the CC due to a dispute over the same.
Today’s meeting has also decided to launch training programmes in all 75 districts from 11 to 25 of March.
