Teachers shut down Jajarkot schools indefinitely
JAJARKOT, FEB 24 -
Teachers of Jajarkot district shut down academic institutions across the district for an indefinite period on Wednesday to press for their professional demand.
The agitating teachers called for the indefinite closure of educational institutions as part of the protest against excessive use of force by the police in their peaceful protest organised at the district headquarters, Khalanga yesterday.
About 70,000 students were deprived of their rights to go to school as nearly 300 schools in the district remained shut due to the teachers’ strike.
According to Ilam Bahadur Shahi, the coordinator of United Teacher Struggle Committee, the agitating teachers shut down Khalanga Bazaar today to protest the police repression.
During a clash between the police and the teachers yesterday, some 22 teachers and 2 police personnel were injured.
Among those injured, Uma Shrestha, Kaushila Shahi Khatri and Radhika Sharma has been ferried to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Coordinator Shahi warned of ‘intense protest program’ if the government fails to reasonable demands and tries to repress their agitation.
The teachers took to the agitation to press for their demands including local and remote allowances on a par with their Karnali—a remote zone—counterparts, scholarship for students.
