KATHMANDU, FEB 15 - Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari on Sunday called on President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and requested him to take up the issue of military aid to Nepal Army during his official visit to India starting from Monday.
During an hour-long meeting held at the president’s residence Sheetal Niwas, Bhandari told the president that Nepal Army was facing deficiency of weapons and lethal equipment.
“I’ve been continuously lobbying for military aid so that we can strengthen the national Army,” a source quoted the defence minister.
“I request your Excellency to take up this issue during the high level meetings with Indian officials.”
India resumed military aid to Nepal Army last month just days before Indian Army Chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor’s official visit to Nepal.
