Dr. Bhattarai warns of revolt
KATHMANDU, FEB 14 - UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr, Baburam Bhattarai asserted on Sunday that the peace process and the statute drafting cannot be completed without scientific and respectful integration of Maoist combatants.
Inaugurating the first conference of Nepal National Professors' Association of the Maoists' Abadh-Madhes state in Butwal today, Dr Bhattari accused the government and political parties of not being serious to the army integration. He charged that the prime minister inappropriately raised the army integration agenda just to keep the government intact. He warned that the army integration process cannot be carried out by making wild speculations.
Saying that the attempt to sideline the Maoists is a ploy to forestall the drafting of the new constitution, the Maoist vice chairman said there is no alternative to forming a national government under the Maoist leadership. He said only the Maoist-led government is capable of taking the peace process to a logical end and drafting the new constitution.
"It’s the demand of the time to bid farewell to the government formed with the support of regressive forces," said Dr Bhattarai, "We will resort to struggle if a painless attempt failed to give an outlet to the crisis."
The Maoist leader dubbed the current battle a struggle between the status quoist and progressive forces. He warned of launching the "people's revolt" for the establishment of people's republic if the anti-change elements tried to maintain status quo.
Dr. Bhattarai, who expressed his wrath against the government, claimed that the current government is not worth calling the government.
"It would be disrespect to the concept of government to regard the current coalition as a government," said Dr Bhattarai. He also alleged that the ministers of the current government are like "donated cows".
